COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES

Advocates (CASA), Marin Advocates for Children. Every year more than half a million abused, neglected children need safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another with no family to call their own. As trained advocates, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. CASA volunteers are ordinary people who’re committed to doing what is best for the child. Volunteers are trained in courtroom procedure, social services, juvenile justice system, special needs of abused, neglected children. An 18 month commitment is required. Must be available weekday afternoons to attend mandatory training (9 sessions) Sept 25-Oct 26.

COURTS

Receptionist/Intake Specialist, Legal Self Help Service, Courts. Greet and assist customers as they enter Legal Self Help Services, which provides assistance in understanding and navigating general procedures and providing tools and information for people to do self-research or complete documents for processing. No legal experience necessary. The volunteer will determine the type of case and the needs of the customer, and direct them accordingly. May also assist in responding to correspondence and request for forms, as well as with on-going and one-time projects. Basic office and computer skills, and ability to work effectively in a busy environment with diverse customers are necessary. Bi/multi-lingual a plus! Training will be provided. Minimum time commitment of one three-hour shift per week is preferred.

CULTURAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Docents, Cultural Services. Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiasts are needed to lead docent tours on an on call basis at the historic Marin County Civic Center. Expand and share your knowledge with a wide range of visitors. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers with good speaking voices who enjoy teaching and leading groups on fascinating and educational hour and a half walking tours of this national architectural treasure, Frank Lloyd Wright’s last project.  Outstanding training provided by expert veteran docents.

Maintenance/Assistant to Director of Maintenance, Cultural Services. Do you have “handyman” skills? Assist in facilities services with Marin Center Events, including facilities maintenance, electrical, plumbing, key-locking, painting, exhibits. Mechanical aptitude and interest required; three days/week.

Receptionist, Cultural Services. Get a first-hand and up-close view of what goes on at the Marin Center. Receptionists needed to help put mailings together, answer phones and direct inquiries, make copies; organize a publicity book, assist with fair entries, light computer work such as data input and word processing, too. Perfect volunteer job for flexible person who would enjoy promoting culture and the arts in Marin in a friendly and low-pressure environment. The show must go on, and with your behind-the-scenes help, it will! Ideal hours would be a 3-hour shift, Tuesday morning or afternoon.

FIRE

Lookout, Fire Department. The Fire Department is looking now for a team of volunteer Fire Lookouts for the 2010 fire season. The lookout provides the "early eyes" for all the county fire departments. The lookouts provide critical early information about active fires PRIOR to the arrival of the fire departments on the scene, as well as  providing community education about significant fire issues in Marin. Must be in physical condition to walk from the Tam East Peak parking lot to the Fire Lookout, and should have a sound knowledge of Marin County areas. Training will be provided - basic orientation will take place in early June. During the season, lookouts are stationed on Mt. Barnaby and Mt. Tam, and work on a revolving schedule.

Videographer, Urban Search and Rescue Team. Use your video recording skills to play an essential supporting role for Marin County rescue workers. The USAR team is looking for an experienced videographer to record trainings for future reference. The 100-member USAR team includes personnel from the Fire and Public Works departments. The team is capable of performing confined-space rescue, water rescue, physical search and rescue operations in collapsed structures, initial medical stabilization of injured or trapped victims, hazardous materials categorization, structural hazard evaluation, and stabilization of damaged structures. The ideal volunteer can capture key components of trainings, enjoys working with active groups, and supports the department’s public safety mission. The volunteer may be asked to advise staff about planning, shooting, and editing video. Hours: weekdays during business hours at various Marin indoor and outdoor locations. Trainings are held twice a month from November through April. Staff will provide orientation and on-site support as needed.

HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES

Administrative Nutrition and Events Aide, Public Health Services, H&HS. Only have a few hours a week to volunteer? The Nutrition Wellness Program needs clerical support and event outreach one half-day per week on a sporadic basis.

Clerk, Community Mental Health Services, H&HS. Use your customer service and office skills to staff a front desk and maintain medical records for patients in an office with a steady pace of work. The ideal volunteer is detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to answer phones, file, copy, fax, and enter data on existing Excel spreadsheets, and comfortable in a mental health care setting. Some computer knowledge required. Minimum hours: 3 to 6 hours a day, 1 to 3 days a week. Staff will provide training and orientation.

Community Resource Specialist, Community Health & Prevention Services. Help Marin residents find accurate information about nearby community services by updating 211 Marin County, a 24/7 telephone assessment and referral service. The volunteer will work with Marin County and United Way program managers, promoting the benefits of the directory to local nonprofit agencies and providing tools, teaching, and/or training to allow nonprofits to update their own 211 information. The ideal volunteer has excellent customer service skills, is detail-oriented, organized, a good record-keeper, and can be entrusted with confidential information. Must have transportation to travel to United Way offices in San Francisco and around Marin for site visits. Training will be provided by United Way and County of Marin health services staff.  For information about 211, visit 211bayarea.org. Two mornings and two afternoon shifts a week, flexible schedule until project is completed, minimum 3 month commitment.

Drivers, Department of Aging, Health and Human Services. Do you like to drive? Help someone who can’t drive a patient for same-day surgery & help settle them at home, or drive someone to a doctor’s appointment. Flexible hours, monthly team meeting and gas reimbursement. Group will meet every third Tuesday.

Facilitators, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. "Healthy Living" Department of Aging, Health and Human Services. Help people suffering with chronic illness learn the skills and tools to cope with their disease. Marin County Health & Human Services, Division of Aging, is seeking Facilitators for six-week sessions of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. The content is in the form of a well-designed, interactive, scripted program developed at Stanford University. Are you suffering from chronic illness yourself? We encourage you to apply. A medical or teaching background is not necessary, but is a plus. The program is educational, fun, and powerful. Training is available at various times throughout the year.

Health Fair Volunteer, Community Health and Prevention Services, H&HS. Are you interested in volunteering at county-sponsored health-screening events on Saturday, October 9th (in San Rafael) and/or Saturday, October 16th (in Novato) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.? Volunteers are needed for Binational Health events in the areas of logistics (parking attendants, set up and clean up), greeters, and client assistants/translators (Spanish and Vietnamese speakers are needed). Seasonal flu vaccines (which include the H1N1 strain) and lunch are available for all volunteers. Saturday, October 9th (in San Rafael) and/or Saturday, October 16th (in Novato) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Grant Writer, CA Nutrition Network, H&HS. Are you an experienced grant writer? The Nutrition Division is looking for a skilled grant writer to respond to funding opportunities and write grant proposals for physical activity and nutrition for all age groups. The grant writer will also work with the funding sub-committee of the Marin Wellness Collaborative Leadership Council to research potential funding sources. Orientation will be provided.  Flexible hours, can work from home.

Nutrition Events Aide, Community Health & Prevention, Public Health Services. Help your community by encouraging healthy habits for kids. Staff a booth at local events and give youngsters the opportunity to win prizes and learn about nutrition and exercise. The volunteer also will hand out questionnaires and help with set-up and break-down. This opportunity is for the volunteer who likes people and works well with children. Weekend and weekday mornings, variable schedule. Individual training provided.

Packet Assembler, Public Assistance Eligibility, H&HS. Help clients in need to access public assistance resources by assembling packets of forms and information to be distributed to program applicants. The packets differ depending on program and the point in time of the case when the applications are being distributed (new application versus re-certification). It is of vital importance that the packets be assembled correctly, so efficiency and attention to detail are crucial. Self paced, flexible hours; training provided.

Parent Partner, Community Health and Prevention Services, H&HS. Are you a compassionate and empathetic individual willing to make a substantial commitment to a family in need? Volunteer Parent Aides are matched with expectant or young families experiencing social, emotional, or economic difficulties, and take on a mentoring relationship, helping parents develop life management, parenting, and social skills; promote the healthy growth and development of young children; help families access community resources; give daily living support, including transportation to appointments; and help reduce the risk of maternal depression. Through weekly visits, the Parent Aide establishes a minimum 1 year relationship with a family. Bilingual volunteers are especially encouraged to apply. Volunteers receive a mandatory 20-hour training program beginning September 25 (call for full training schedule). Volunteers also attend peer supervision meetings alternating Mondays, 1-3 PM, beginning November 22.

Patient Advocates, Department of Aging, H&HS. Project Independence bridges the gap between the Program Participants’ discharge from the hospital and the return to their autonomy, independence, and quality of life at home. Patient Advocates work with a client in their home and support them to understand and follow discharge plans and medication orders, and coordinate and arrange for community services which may be helpful. Patient Advocates must have their own transportation, complete 20 hours of training, and participate in ongoing in-service training.

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant, Health and Human Services (Youth and Family Services) – Health and Wellness Campus. Youth and Family Services seeks a volunteer to work a the front desk and behind-the-scenes in a program that provides out-patient mental health services including assessment, case management, family counseling, education, and child psychiatry for children, teens, and families.  Your efforts will support the entire family seeking individual or family assistance.  Help provide a warm and welcoming environment, greet clients at the front desk, and provide administrative support such as filing and photocopying. Shifts are available Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. One or two 3-4 hour shifts per week are preferred.   

Senior Peer Counselors, Community Mental Health Services (CMHS). Are you 55+ and looking to help Marin seniors through a variety of aging-related issues? Peer Counselors are needed to provide one-to-one weekly counseling to senior clients in their homes, helping them deal with aspects of aging while providing emotional support and practical resources to help comfort and empower them. Volunteer counselors bring with them an interest in their own personal growth and the compassion and understanding that older clients require. The program offers its eight-week training session starting Spring 2010 in San Rafael, in basic counseling skills, issues of aging, and community resources. Other jobs are available in the meantime.

Videographer, H&HS Administration. Work closely with the Department’s Compliance Officer and Project Team to produce a digital video overview introducing the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services, including our clients, staff, services, H&HS sites and community partners. Access to a high quality video camera and editing equipment would be helpful. This is a 3-6 month collaborative project. Flexible hours, 8-10 hrs/wk.

Vietnamese Translator, Health and Human Services, Integrated Clinics. Do you speak Vietnamese and enjoy helping others? Health and Human Services, Integrated Clinics has occasional need for Vietnamese-speaking volunteers to assist in the TB clinic to translate for clients. HHS has additional needs for Vietnamese-speakers at various health screening events, such as the Binational Health Fairs that take place in October. If you don't mind being called upon for occasional support, and like to help others, this role is for you. We will call you with as much advanced notice as possible and utilize your skills on an as needed basis.

HOUSING AUTHORITY

Public Relations Liaison, Marin Housing Authority. The Housing Authority is looking for that special person who has a lot of energy and genuine affection and understanding of elderly and disabled-persons' issues. Ideal volunteer will have some computer skills. Possibility of working on a newsletter, if volunteer is interested. Meet with residents, report problems to managers, and work in a team-oriented group. Training will be provided. Schedule is somewhat flexible, ideally 1-3 days a week for 4 hours a day.

HOUSING, MARIN WORKFORCE HOUSING TRUST

Fundraising Strategist, Marin Workforce Housing Trust. Develop an all-encompassing fundraising plan and research potential target donors, including foundations, individuals, businesses, and federal and state grants, to help the Housing Trust provide low-interest loans to developers for multi-family, affordable rentals for lower income and special needs populations. Match the priorities of potential donors to the mission of the organization. Be in on the ground floor of this new, collaborative non-profit organization. The volunteer will work with guidance from the Executive Director.

Policy and Procedures Reviewer, Marin Workforce Housing Trust. Are you knowledgeable about the organizational procedures and policies necessary to comply with federal and state law for non-profits? If so, you can help the Marin Workforce Housing Trust meet potential donor requirements for due diligence review, so they can carry out their mission to provide low-interest loans to developers of multi-family rental housing for lower income and special needs populations. Work with the Executive Director; flexible hours.

.HUMAN RESOURCES

Administrative Assistant, CCV Intern Program, Human Resources. Help support opportunities for students and recent grads as you keep the growing Civic Center Volunteers Intern Program organized and efficient. The ideal volunteer knows office systems, is accurate, has an excellent sense of order, and knows Excel. Experience in human resources or program management a plus! Hours: 4 - 8 hrs/wk on a flexible schedule. Staff will provide orientation and support.

Volunteer Coordinator, Marin Community Clinics, Human Resources. Are you a highly organized, people-oriented self starter? Coordinator needed to develop, implement, and maintain Marin Community Clinics' volunteer program, including recruiting, interviewing, and screening potential MCC volunteers, coordinating the assignment of volunteers with Program Managers, documenting volunteer personnel files, assigning projects, supervising and evaluating volunteers, organizing volunteer recognition events. Prior management experience a plus. Orientation to all departments and clinic locations will be provided, as well as potential shadowing time on specific jobs.

 MARIN COUNTY FREE LIBRARY (NOTE BRANCH)

Patron Aide, Civic Center Library. Merge your computer and people skills together and tutor novice computer users in Microsoft Word, Excel, basic emailing, and Internet tasks. This is a great opportunity if you are calm and patient and are proficient with personal computers. Help patrons print documents, use microfiche, and monitor teens using the internet.

Storyteller, Civic Center Library. Add joy and adventure to the lives of older adults by becoming a storyteller! The Civic Center Library is in need of volunteers to read to groups of seniors who are frail and/or diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Individuals should be comfortable working with ailing older adults, reading to groups of twenty or more, and leading brief discussions. Four to five volunteers needed.  Small time commitment -- once per week, approximately one hour, at Senior Access, 70 Skyview Terrace, San Rafael.  Storyteller will receive orientation from the staff of Senior Access, which co-sponsors the read-aloud program with the Civic Center Library. Volunteers pick what to read. Interactions will include such things as reviewing a memory kit – including photos, old ads, etc. Times are Tuesday a.m., Thursday p.m., and Friday a.m. Current TB test required; test is provided free of charge by the County.

Readers, Corte Madera Library. Practice your reading skills and bring stories to life by joining the Listen In! read-aloud team to serve residents of the Aegis Assisted Living Facility on  Paradise Drive.  Ideal volunteers love a good story, are comfortable reading in public, and are expressive speakers. Some listeners are hearing impaired, so the ability to speak up and to read aloud articulately and with enthusiasm is a necessity.

Book Mender, Fairfax Library. Prior experience required to repair damaged books, attach loose pages and repair torn pages, 3 hrs/day, once or twice a week.

Cyberhost, Novato Regional Library. 1 – 6 friendly, patient and helpful volunteers needed to provide one-on-one instruction for the public in the basic use of Internet and in the use of the library’s online catalog system and online PC reservation and print system. Volunteer will assist the general public in navigating computers and may teach basic computer skills to adult learners, including how to navigate the Web and use a web-based mail account. Duties include assisting patrons in signing up and using public interest stations, assist in the basics of Internet usage, and assist in usage of on-line catalog and electronic databases. Orientation provided. Flexible hours.

Senior Access Reader, Novato Regional Library. Do you enjoy reading aloud? Touch lives and make a difference by reading to a group of frail elderly, some with Alzheimer’s, every Tuesday, 1:30 – 2:30 PM in Novato. The ideal volunteer loves a good story, is comfortable reading in public, and is an expressive speaker. Some listeners are hearing impaired, so the ability to speak up and read aloud articulately and with enthusiasm is a necessity. Current TB Test required – test is provided free of charge by the County.

Shelf Reader, Novato Regional Library. If you enjoy libraries and the library environment, this is the job for you! Assist in the maintenance and organization of library shelving, refer patron requests to appropriate staff, search for missing or misplaced items. Physical ability to push, bend, stretch, lift, and read fine print is required. Orientation and training provided, 3 hr/wk, Sundays through Thursdays.

Internet Tutor, South Novato County Library. Are you proficient in using a PC? Help one or two prospective students use the library computers to fill out job applications, set up personal email, become familiar with MS Word, gain familiarity with and surf the Internet, answer a variety of questions. Students sign up at the reference table and that information is emailed to the tutor, who arranges a convenient time to meet. Must enjoy people, be patient, desire to share knowledge and be comfortable with PC skills, especially for job applicants. Spanish skills helpful but not required. Current tutor will train; librarian will give an orientation and provide handouts for classes.

Library Beyond Walls Volunteers, Various Marin Library Branches. As little as an hour per month could bring the gift of books, audio books, movies or music to homebound seniors. Volunteers needed to deliver library materials to those who cannot get to the library due to physical disability or transportation issues.

Teacher’s Aide, Marin Literacy Program. Share your love of learning as a support volunteer to the FLAGship (Families Learning And Growing) bus staff. The bus makes weekly visits to Marin area communities to reach families underserved by preschool services. Volunteers will meet the bus at a selected location, and assist staff directly with parents and children. Activities include school readiness, story times, art projects, singing, health information, and English literacy for adults and children. The ideal volunteer is comfortable with diverse groups and enjoys young children, children’s literature, and children’s music. Spanish fluency is a plus. Literacy training required. Make a difference for as little as two hours a week for six months. Bus hours: 8:30 to 2:30, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; see www.marinliteracy.org for schedule of sites.

Tutors, Marin Literacy Program, San Rafael Library. Help open a door on the world! The Marin Literacy Program is looking for sensitive tutors for eager adults 1.5-2 hours per week over a six-month period. You'll work one-on-one or in small groups. Orientation to the program is offered monthly from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the San Rafael Public Library, 1100 E St. San Rafael. Volunteers receive 16 hours of training offered quarterly on two consecutive Saturdays (9:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).

Library Talent Scout, Marin County Free Library. Libraries are about more than just books and computers! Make a difference for library patrons by creating programs, recruiting others and coordinating with libraries to provide enrichment programs for library patrons and the surrounding community. Responsibilities include arranging workshops, coordinating with librarians and branch managers, and reporting progress to the Project Coordinator. Ability to network with friends, family, civic groups and faith communities is a must. Training and support provided. 6 mo. to 1 year commitment.

PARKS AND OPEN SPACE

Civic Center Landscape Steward, Parks and Open Space. Do you marvel at the lush landscaping inside and around Marin County’s historic Civic Center? Become a Civic Center Landscape Steward and help keep the landscaped areas looking beautiful. Orientation regarding the importance of landscaping and of hand weeding as it relates to Integrated Pest Management will be provided by the Chief of Landscape. Self-paced work in a relaxed environment with flexible hours.

Data Entry Clerk, Parks & Open Space. Want to help our parks and open spaces but not interested in digging brush on the hillside?  Are you detail oriented & familiar with MS Access? If so, your skills are needed with self-paced computer data entry into the Park’s “Green Card System” at the friendly Lucas Valley office. Orientation to the database, tips and tricks will be provided. Flexible hours.

Gatehouse Attendant, Parks & Open Space. Attention outdoor lovers! McNears Beach Park is currently looking for personable, outgoing people to greet visitors to the park. Collect fees, answer the phone, direct park patrons, and interact with the public and staff. Shifts range from 4-8 hours. Volunteers will be bonded by the County.

McInnis Skate Park Steward, Parks and Open Space. Do you enjoy watching the jumps and maneuvers that skate boarders perform these days? Have some time in the mornings or evenings? Volunteers needed to tend to the skate park and tennis courts at McInnis Park, checking for safety hazards, and making sure the facilities are clean and working properly. Other duties may include sweeping the paths, weeding landscaped areas, and picking up litter. The ideal volunteer is friendly with park visitors, and may need to remind skate park users to wear helmets. Will be responsible for reporting any issues to the Ranger staff. Volunteers needed mornings, 7-9 AM, and evenings, 6-8 PM. Training and orientation will be provided, including basic MERA radio training.

 PROBATION DEPARTMENT

Office Assistant, Probation Department, Adult Supervision Unit. Are you looking for an opportunity for a self paced behind the scenes work experience? The Probation Dept is looking for an organized, self starter with an attention to detail that might enjoy the review of documents that need to be identified and purged. Training will be provided to give you the comfort level and knowledge to look through files and decide which ones should be destroyed. This project entails moving several files at a time to a desk for review and then back to the file room. The volunteer will head up reorganizing the file room as this task is completed. Potential volunteers wil require a basic background check.

SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Administration Clerk, Sheriff’s Office. Sharpen your office management and bookkeeping skills in the Sheriff’s Office. The person in this position will interact with the public, make bank deposits, move mail to the Auditor’s Office, order office supplies, use Excel and Access to run query reports, maintain a storeroom, and perform basic research and filing. The ideal candidate is organized, people-oriented, efficient, and dependable. Sheriff’s Office staff will provide an introduction to the department. Applicants are subject to the Sheriff’s Office drug use guidelines and are required to pass a background investigation prior to appointment.

Jail Administrative Assistant, Marin County Custody Unit. Help keep the County Jail current with changing laws and regulations. Assist the Jail Facility Regulatory Compliance Officer with records, systems and equipment. The ideal candidate is organized and attentive to detail. The person in this position may be asked to complete research projects, help implement new regulations and standards, set up training meetings, and update documents. Orientation will be provided by staff. Applicants are subject to the Sheriff’s Office drug use guidelines and are required to pass a background investigation prior to appointment.

Public Safety Communications Assistant, Communications Center, Sheriff’s Office. Put your computer skills to work assisting in rewriting of operational policies and procedures, and providing research to assist with development of training materials.  Must be able to handle additional projects as assigned.  Training provided for general functions and requirements. Applicants are subject to the Sheriff’s Office drug use guidelines and are required to pass a background investigation prior to appointment.

Technology Support Assistant, Technology Services Unit. Keep law enforcement officers connected by cloning hard drives, maintaining CPUs, removing and repairing broken computer units, and updating software. The ideal candidate can diagnose and fix computer problems and is agile enough to work in the trunk or front seat of a patrol car when necessary. Orientation provided by Technology Services staff. Applicants are subject to the Sheriff’s Office drug use guidelines and are required to pass a background investigation prior to appointment.

TRANSIT AUTHORITY

Marin Transit Ambassador, Marin County Transit District. Are you an advocate for public transportation? Are you patient and willing to coach others about getting around Marin on buses? Marin County Transit District is launching a program to help new riders, mostly senior citizens, become public transit-savvy. Find out how you can jump on the next bus and become a Marin Transit Ambassador! Volunteers must attend program orientation and quarterly ambassador meetings, and be familiar with Marin’s local transit system. Opportunities are available to accompany transit staff to community presentations. Volunteers will receive a monthly Marin Transit local pass (good for unlimited free rides on MT routes) for every month they participate. Flexible hours, minimum 4 hrs/month, one-year commitment requested. Mandatory fingerprinting and background check provided by the district.

BI-LINGUAL POSITIONS

Child Engagement Leader/Mariposa Support Group, B-lingual, Health and Wellness Campus, H&HS.  Do you believe in encouraging healthy families? Support that goal and have fun engaging children while new mothers attend a support group intended to lessen the potential for postpartum depression. Volunteer must speak Spanish and English, be at least 16 years of age, and have experience with children. Child-to-adult ratio will not exceed 10:1. Volunteers will help set up and close the meeting room, and will engage children ages 18 months to 5 years with games, singing, puzzles, and stories. Mandatory training in confidentiality and HIPAA will be provided, along with LIVESCAN fingerprinting and a TB test. Staff will orient volunteers to the county’s Health and Wellness Campus in San Rafael. Schedule: 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., running through June 2010. (You may contact volunteer manager at 499-7167 for exact dates.) Ideally, volunteers will commit to one or two 2.5-hour shifts a month for the whole series. Program is co-sponsored by Canal Alliance and the County Women’s Health Clinic.

Child Engagement, Bi-lingual, WIC Program, Health and Wellness Campus – H&HS. Give a warm welcome to children to the Marin County Health and Wellness Campus in San Rafael. While parents keep clinic appointments and attend classes, volunteers will engage small groups of children, ages 18 months to 5 years, in indoor game-playing, singing, puzzle-solving, and story-reading. Games, books, and other supplies provided. The ideal volunteer is patient and enjoys youngsters. Volunteers must be Spanish/English bilingual, experienced with children, and at least 16 years of age. Hours to be individually arranged within weekday clinic hours of 8 a.m. – noon and 1 – 5 p.m.  Commitment: minimum of 4 hours a week for six months. The four hours may be divided into two 2-hour shifts. Mandatory training in confidentiality and HIPAA will be provided, along with LIVESCAN fingerprinting and a TB test. Staff will orient the volunteer to the campus on Kerner Boulevard.

Connection Center Resource Desk Assistant, Bi-lingual, Health and Wellness Campus – H&HS. This is a vital position that requires greeting, directing, and providing resource and referral information to visitors and clients at the Connection Center at the new Health and Wellness Campus.  This program seeks bilingual (Spanish speaking) individuals to provide a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel comfortable. This position requires providing information about the campus programs and community resources, escorting clients to other buildings if appropriate, and recording resource and referral information into a database program.  Shifts are available Monday – Friday during office hours (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.), and are especially needed during the lunch hour (12 noon – 1 p.m.) and Wednesday evenings until 8 p.m. Entry level position; work at a gentle pace.

Food Stamp Application Assistant, Bi-lingual, WIC and Public Assistance, Public Health, H&HS. Do you have strong administrative skills and a passion for helping families in need? Assist Spanish-speaking WIC clients with filling out Food Stamp applications and gathering required supplemental information. Copy and collect all information and submit to Public Assistance Program via interoffice mail at the conclusion of each appointment. Ability to patiently explain complex paperwork to potentially low literacy clients is a must. Mandatory orientation to the Campus and Connection Center programs and services and Compliance training related to HIPAA and Protecting Personal Information are required.

Patient Assistant for Spanish-Speaking Clients, Women’s Health Clinic, H&HS. Do you enjoy helping patients? Gain behind-the-scenes perspective as you serve clients of a busy public health clinic in the following areas: immunization, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, tuberculosis, and obstetrics and gynecology. This position supports only the gynecology clinic. Duties may include preparing exam rooms, escorting patients from the lobby, taking digital blood pressure and weight, reconciling patient logs, scheduling follow-up appointments, copying, assembling packets, and/or reviewing medical history forms with clients as appropriate. Required: conversational Spanish, strict confidentiality, commitment to a regular schedule, and a TB test. Hours: at least one four-hour shift a week for at least three months. Six-month commitment preferred. The ideal volunteer is detail-oriented, organized, and pleasant. Staff will provide training in clinical standards of conduct and practice, training in HIPAA, orientation to the department, and ongoing guidance and supervision.

Receptionist, Bilingual, Employment and Economic Assistance, H&HS. Can you translate documents? Help others complete their paperwork? Here is the perfect opportunity for a volunteer who wants to hone their office, communication and computer skills and help their community. Bilingual required.

Senior Peer Counselors, Spanish Speaking, Community Mental Health Services (CMHS). Are you 55+, bilingual, and looking to help Marin seniors through a variety of aging-related issues? Peer Counselors are needed to provide one-to-one weekly counseling to senior clients in their homes, helping them deal with aspects of aging while providing emotional support and practical resources to help comfort and empower them. Volunteer counselors bring with them an interest in their own personal growth and the compassion and understanding that older clients require. Ten week training program required in basic counseling skills, issues of aging, and community resources.

Spanish Interpreter, Family and Children’s Law Center, Marin County Superior Court.  Interpreter needed to translate during legal appointments for Spanish-speaking clients. Familiarity with legal terminology a plus! Some briefing on legal procedures provided.

Tutors, Bilingual, Juvenile Hall School. Reach out to our youth! The Juvenile Hall School is looking for bilingual tutors to help Spanish-speaking students learn to read and write in English. You'll work in a self-paced, team-oriented environment - anywhere from 1 to 4 hours per day, 3-5 mornings per week. Training as liaison between staff and Spanish-speaking patients will be provided.  Office setting is fast-paced and volunteers should be comfortable in a busy environment.  Office experience is not necessary.
