EMBRACING DIVERSITY
As the Supervisor of District Four, I enjoy the most diverse constituency of any Marin Supervisor. I have
reaffirmed my commitment to embracing diversity in the communities I serve and within the Civic Center,
and am pleased to encourage constituents to contact my Administrative Aide, David Escobar, the first
bilingual-bicultural aide in Marin. With David's assistance my office has expanded its outreach and
assistance on a number of issues.
- Bilingual Health and Human Services staff in West Marin - The growing presence of the Latino
community in West Marin has increased the need for bilingual staff at the County's Human Services
facility in Point Reyes Station. In response to this need I am working with Health and Human
Services management to provide a bilingual counselor position in that office.
- Summer of Peace - This exciting and growing project is focused on addressing the needs of youth in
the Canal neighborhood during the Summer months to help prevent the escalation of youth violence.
- West Marin Literacy - This program has brought services to communities where in the past there was
no opportunity for non-English speaking adults to become more literate. It's a remarkably popular
and has also assisted people as they move toward citizenship.
