COMMUNITY WELL-BEING
The needs and opportunities for greater community wellbeing are as diverse as the
District itself. From the arts to childcare to creating new health facilities in San Rafael, there is
a wide range of efforts underway to enhance the physical and social health of all those who live in
this special place.
Health and Community - Current Efforts
New H & HS Health Facility in San Rafael - a coordinated planning effort is examining
opportunities for a facility to provide comprehensive health and social services in San Rafael
Regularly interact with the
Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area to protect the interests of
"gateway" communities in their interactions with the parks
Breast Cancer
Health and Community - Past Efforts
Provided County funding for the Coastal Health Alliance capital campaign to upgrade its clinics in Bolinas,
Stinson Beach and Point Reyes Station
Bolinas community problems regarding inappropriate beach use, sanitation and parking congestion - after a
9 month long process of working with the community an ordinance was passed by the Board of Supervisors to
provide limited control of use of the beach.
Provided funding for the Corte Madera Library Garden Project and parking improvements
Provide funding and other support for community centers in Bolinas, Stinson Beach, and San Geronimo
Facilitated County $20,000 "bridge" funding during a budget shortfall period for the Canal Community
Alliance
Facilitated and assisted in funding the transfer of authority over the community sewer system from North
Marin Water District to the Tomales Community Services District
Funding for Stinson Beach Community Center $15,000 annually 1998-2001
Supported ongoing County funding for West Marin Chamber of Commerce
Facilitated a recreational easement and funding of $60,000 for the Woodacre Ballfield renovation
through the Department of Parks and Open Space
Supported the Senior Housing project in the San Geronimo Valley
Supported the San Geronimo Valley Planning Group's research into public access issues
